A wave of reported sightings occurred in Belgium from November 1989 through April 1990. The reports were mostly reported weeks or even months after the events. Many reported a large object flying at low altitude. Some said the ship was a flat, triangular shape and had lights underneath.
March 30th and 31st, 1990
The height of reported sightings in Belgium happened the night of March 30, 1990. An unknown object was tracked on radar, and two Belgian F-16s were deployed to investigate. Neither pilot actually saw the object.
On the date, no reports were received by the public. Over the next two weeks however, 143 people reported seeing something that night. Even in the months that followed, people continued to report witnessing the events.
March 30 — around 11 pm
The supervisor of the Control Reporting Center (CRC) near Brussels received reports of three strange lights moving across the sky. The CRC asked the police to investigate and confirm the sighting.
About ten minutes later, more reports came in, saying a second set of lights were seen moving toward the first triangle. A nearby Traffic Center Control was only able to track one object on its radar, and an order was given to send two F-16s to investigate.
March 30-31 — around midnight
Both F-16s attempted nine separate interceptions of the targets. Three were successful, but only for a few seconds, and it was later determined these were actually radar locks on each other.
The pilots never reported seeing any lights or claimed maneuvers, and were unable to lock onto any object besides the other F-16.
After 12:30, radar contact was more sporadic and the last confirmed block took place at 12:40. There were several more unconfirmed contacts, and the F-16s returned to base just after 1 am.
